Hello my fellow geeky fellows!
I realize it is rather last minute, but here are the rules of the game. I ask that everybody read them even if you just skim. I don’t want to have to explain the whole rule book on the day of. Thank you!!!
Also, I forgot to mention in the last email….. The main goal of this LARP is to have your clan earn the most ‘survival points’ by the end of the game. Story line wise, it represents which clan will have the highest chance of rebuilding a successful society. It is designed to be competitive. There will be a list of tasks and objectives that earn your clan survival points posted in town. Additionally each clan will have an objective list that will award survival points as well.
Another thing to note is that every hour there will be a Gathering. This is when all players are required to be in town. Any announcements to be made will be made and this is a great time to buy and sell items. This is also when my army of elves re-hides resources so please turn a blind eye if you glimpse some of their shiny coats.
Special role list:
- Town Medic: Sarah
- This and That trader: Stryder
- Arms Dealer: Jorrok
- Quest Master: Volunteer? (Else, will be Queen Anne)
Clan leaders:
- Raptor clan: Aaron
- Aristo clan: Matthew
- Outcast clan: Zyanna
Make sure to thank these fine volunteers for their willingness to help out after the LARP!!
That aside, here are the rules!
Airsoft safety rules-
-All players/NPCs must wear safety goggles at all times!! The only exception to this is if you go inside.
-Alton (AKA Falton) is a NO shooting zone. Period.
-It is highly, highly suggested that you wear a full face mask and cover all skin with some sort of layering, but it is not required.
-If you are within 20 or so feet of another player, a knife kill is in order. (yes you may throw the knife as long as it is not crazy heavy) If the knife hits anything but their hands or feet, it is one HP of damage. (see HP)
-Shots to ANY part of the body except the hands and wrists will count as an HP of damage. That aside, please do not deliberately aim for the head or other potentially painful parts of the body.
-No guns over 400 fps. Unless it is a sniper, in which case, just don’t shoot people up close.
-Knives have to be foam or rubber.
-Some players do not wish to partake in the ‘airsoft’ part of this LARP. Therefore, if you see a player wearing a yellow strip of cloth wrapped on their arm, DO NOT SHOOT THEM. Please check the arms of the player before you take the shot. This will allow more players to come and enjoy LARP.
-DO NOT BRING YOUR OWN AMMO. To avoid unnecessary trouble and to work with the feel of the LARP, we will provide the ammo. Each player with get to start with some ammo and as the day goes on you can buy more.
-If ANY GM calls out ‘ceasefire’ all players must freeze where they are until the issue is addressed. Once the GM calls out ‘game on’ everyone is allowed to go back to their business.
-Finally, if you think somebody’s gun is too powerful or you are seeing a player being purposefully aggressive or harmful to other players or if you or another player is hurt, please report it to a GM.
You know the house rule: Be willing to sacrifice a personal win for the fun of others.
New Airsoft player guide-
If you have never played Airsoft before but want to come, PLEASE DO! This short guide will walk you through what to do before coming.
-Borrow sealed, airsoft rated, safety goggles or a face mask. We will have a few extras but I would rather you borrow a friend’s mask beforehand. However, if you can’t manage to borrow one before the game begins, we will find you a mask.
-Wear lots of layers. The more layers the less getting shot hurts. That said, don’t wear enough that you will be sweaty or incumbered. I usually wear long sleeves with a thin jacket and a hoodie over that. Wear loose thick pants. If you wear loose clothing (please be modest) it will absorb some of the impact.
-Cover all skin except hands. (although I would suggest wearing work gloves or something) Bare skin is allowed, but getting shot on uncovered skin hurts. Make sure to cover your neck and arms for sure. I know it is hard, but faces and heads should be covered too. Hoodies and scarves or hankies work very well. Small slivers of skin (eg. gap between socks and pant leg) are fine. Don’t stress to much about it.
-If you haven’t shot an Airsoft gun before don’t stress! It is rather easy. Some guns have quirks so make sure to ask the loaner of the gun how to use it before you borrow it. Gun use and safety instructions will be provided.
-The first few shots will hurt more than you expect. I promise. Stick in there for a few shots and if you still don’t like it, feel free to contact one of the Game Masters and ask for a non-combat role arm band.
-I personally recommend a full face mask, however, those are hard to acquire and goggles and a mouth guard work well too. I know full face masks feel dorky, but it is post apocalyptic after all, so they are not that out of place.
Rules and Info-
Classes-
Fighter class- You get 2 HP instead of one.
Medic class- 1 HP. You are the only class able to apply bandages and you start the game with a small roll of them.
Mechanic- 1 HP. You are the only one who has the know how to open loot caches. Along with that, you can cut through force fields and your skills may be required for certain quests. (All these class specific actions require a 20 second ‘fiddling’ with the object before the opening, or cutting, or fixing is complete.)
Clan info-
Each clan has its own set of goals and beliefs. They also each get a ‘buff’ for every member.
Raptor clan-
Strong willed and feisty, this clan is always ready for a fight. They will open fire on anyone who tries to take their stuff and jealously guard their scraps. Each member of the Raptor clan is a brother that must be protected at all costs. They want to recreate civilization by inventing new things from the remains of the old. They are mechanics and master inventors.
Buff: Any mechanics in the Raptor clan get a 10 second deduction on their interactions with mechanical items.
They collect: –scrap–
Aristo clan-
They are politicians and believe in absolute trust in their leader. By no means must you question his decrees. They are word wielders and try to talk others into seeing their side of things. They collect data chips and scan them for info for info on the old world. Any tidbits of information about their idol, Derick Aldren, are like precious gems to them. They want to build up a new world where their clan leader is the leader of all. They will be his close ring of advisers and together will snap this world back into line.
Buff: They get 1 extra Bit for every quest finished and every resource sold.
They collect: –data chips–
Outcasts-
The rejects and the lowlifes scamper together to protect each other. Cast out from other clans because of mental or physical quirks, the Outcasts are disliked by all. However, they are done with being ignored by the other clans and being kicked in the dust. They want to be noticed and not just that but they want to have their fellow ‘outcasts’ around the nation noticed too. They are stubborn and will get in the other clans way to prove that they to can have a say in this broken world. They collect preserves for food because the other clans tend to wordlessly keep the best of the loot away from this clan. They want to build a nation where the rejects are not ignored or shunned. They want the outcasts to be shown for the talent and skills that they wield just as well as the next person.
Buff: They can loot two extra items of the bleed out players choice in addition to the normal loot. (see looting)
They collect: –preserves–
Combat-
You are allowed to use any gun or knife you want, as long as you follow the ‘airsoft rules’. Although it is important to note, while players with bright yellow arm bands are non combat, that only means that you cannot shoot them. You can still stab them or take them into town or capture them etc. But please do not force a non combat player into an area that will have combat. (Don’t drag a player into a firefight.)
If you do not wish to be shot or shoot, simply let Jorrok know when the clan banners are being handed out and you will be given a yellow arm band. You may still carry a knife to defend yourself if you wish.
HP-
Any gunshots or knife hits to any part of the body (but the hands for airsoft and the hands and feet for knives) will count as a single HP point. If you get shot or stabbed etc, you proceed to ‘bleed out.’ (see bleed out)
All players but the fighter have 1 HP. (see classes)
Revives and Healing-
Medics are all given some strips of cloth before the game begins. If you are a fighter and are on one HP, you may find a medic and ask to be ‘bandaged up.’ The healer can decline if they want, but if they don’t, they must wrap one of their bandages around an arm or leg. Once the cloth is tied off, you have your HP back!
Reviving works the same way. If you are in bleed out, and a medic tends to you, they may wrap a bandage around your arm or leg and you are back in the game with 1 HP. Any player can be revived.
Please realize however, you cannot have more than two bandages on at a time. Once the second bandage is applied, you can’t be healed or revived again until you have all the bandages removed. You can go to the town medic and have them removed at any time.
Note: Medics can force revive enemy players. They cannot refuse you and you can either charge them some coins, or kidnap them. Your choice!
Bleed out-
When you have lost all HP, you go into ‘bleed out’. You may crawl around behind a barrier and moan and whine and such, but the only communication you can have with other players is yelling ‘medic’. You cannot communicate with your teammates, or the opposition beyond yelling for help. After all, why would you say anything? You have been shot for crying out loud!
Bleed out lasts for two minutes (or as close as you can get while also screaming for a medic) and once the two minutes is up, you must return to town and see the town medic. Once the medic ‘checks you out’ and gives you clean bill of health, you are free to go back to your nefarious deeds.
During bleed out, you may be looted. You cannot stop this from happening and you must give the looters what they ask for. (see loot and looting)
Loot and Looting-
Loot- There are many resources out there, along with some loot caches fallen from wreckage. Resources come in three types: Preserves, Data chips, and Scrap. Each clan is after one of these resources, but that’s not to say you can’t collect all three. However, you will get a smaller amount of money from a resource that is not your clans. Also, if a clan sees you pick up their resource, you will probably get shot.
Loot caches can only be opened by mechanics as they are ‘sealed with a lock.’ Once open, the contents may be removed and the cache must be returned to the ‘This and That’ booth. Anybody can carry loot caches for as long as they like, but only mechanics can open them.
Finally, very rarely you may find a gun hidden somewhere. If a gun is sitting somewhere in the field, (besides in a clan base) it is free for the using. Ammo packs and clips that you find with it are free for taking. Please note that using these guns follows the same rules as using a gun that you rented from the Arms Dealer.
Looting- If you find a player in ‘bleed out’, you may go up to the player and say something like, “I am searching you for ____”. Then fill in the blank with one of these categories: Up to- 10 coins, Up to- two resources, one quest item, Up to- 15 rounds of ammo. If they do not have any of the item that was requested, they must shake their heads and the looter may ask for another item. If they player has even one of the items the looter is asking for, he must give it up.
Keep in mind, you may only ask the player in bleed out for one of the categories at a time. Once he has given you as many of the items that you asked for (or that he has) in that category, (up to the limit), even if it was only a single coin, you cannot ask for any other loot category.
Also, a player can only be looted once during bleed out.
Another form of looting is to find loot in wreckage, survival huts, and clan bases. (see misc. info) Any loot found in wreckage or survival huts belongs to the finder. Looting a clan base is a little bit more complicated. (see base raids)
NPCs —
NPCs- Note: All NPCs are Game Masters and therefore have authority to answer any questions you have.
Arms dealer-
This is where to find all your gun needs along with ammo. If you wish to ‘buy’ a gun for the day, you can here for a small fee. Please note however, the guns that are up for ‘sale’ are guns that were borrowed from someone else, please treat them as if they were your own, and ask the arms dealer if there is anything specific you need to know about the gun before you buy it. 20 ammo is 8 bits. Also, if you have an extra gun you can sell it to this guy for some $$.
This and That Trader-
This is where you can find some food and water among other random items. This is also where you sell your resources. Please note, any resource that you sell that is not your clans main resource is worth 1 less Bit than the normal price. Please return all empty loot caches as well as used up items to the Trader.
DISCLAIMER: The This and That trader does sell items that sometimes go against rules listed here, when an item with a rule conflict is in question, what the This and That trader says, goes.
Town Medic-
Please return all your bandages here. When your bleed out is up, you must come to the medic before you can go back into the game. This is also a place to pick up some quests.
Quest master/loon-
Random story teller, rambler, old dude, oh yea, and quest master.
Mercenaries-
Although not technically a NPC, the mercenaries are not one of the three main clans. They do have their own objectives however. For the right price, you can hire the mercenaries to help you with any odd job you may have. Looking for loot, attacking a clan base, etc. They are found out in the woods.
Misc. Info-
Any items with white tape on them are quest items. If you find an item with white tape but you haven’t been specifically told to find that item, please leave it where it is.
Any item with red tape is a mechanical item. You need a mechanic to interact (open, cut, fix) the item. (see classes)
Structures in game-
Alton (The town once known as Falton) –
The town and meeting place during Gatherings. All NPCs have booths set up here.
Clan bases-
Each clan has a base in the woods made up of a tent, a generator, and a barrier of rope. The rope represents a force field and requires a mechanic to break into. (see base raids)
Mercenary camp-
A few tents hidden out in the woods. No force field but if you steal from these guys you WILL regret it.
Wreckage piles-
Piles of wood that represent wreckage pieces. During every Gathering the loot in these piles will be rehidden.
The Structure once known as the Airship Lollipop-
This is what’s left of a ship hull. It makes for a good defensive position and is counted as a ‘Wreckage pile’ and therefore will have loot. While wreckage piles represent small pieces of newly fallen wreckage, this wreck has been around for a while but since it is so large more loot keeps surfacing.
Survival huts-
Every hut or fort or shed on the property is considered a past survivors hut. If the shed in question has a door, please leave it closed. Any loot to be found will be outside the shed. (This is to avoid messing up the Sweet Rayne way of organizing.) You are welcome to “hole up” in the two goat sheds — as long as you take off your shoes before going into the owner’s real house (Sweet Rayne)!
Base raids-
If you want to raid another team’s base, be it for the loot or for the survival points, here is how to do it.
-Force field: Every clan base has a rope around the base. This represents a force field that blocks shots and people. To get in you must have a mechanic ‘interact’ with the rope. Once the force field is disabled, bundle up the rope and set it next to the generator. Note: there may be two force fields. You must disable both to gain access.
-After the force field(s) are disabled, you can enter the base and loot it. Rules for looting: anything inside the tent is off limits. No touchy touchy. Loot wise, you may take one of the following (not including looting players that may be in bleed out): Up to- 20 coins, Up to- 4 resources, one quest item, Up to- 40 rounds of ammo.
-Once the looting is done and you are ready to move out, grab one of the pieces of paper next to the generator that has the clan emblem on it to tally which base you raided at the end of the day. Each base that was successfully raided (force field down, ‘token’ taken, and some amount of loot stolen) will lose survival points at the end of the day.
-Recovering from and preventing raids: To recover from a raid, you need to have a mechanic on your team fix the force field by ‘interacting’ with the generator. You may then replace the rope. Another easy way to recover from a raid is to raid someone else. 🙂
To help prevent raids, it is suggested that you keep guards posted in or near your base. Also, you can buy an upgrade to your force field at the This and That trader.
Any questions concerning anything in the rules or info can be directed to Jorrok.
Thanks!!
