(This post is a bit of a reflection on the previous event, if you’d like to skip to the link to the photos, scroll to the bottom)
The sun still shines across DaVincii port, but it’s dimmer than it used to be. Crew’s airships are still tied to the great dirigible in the lagoon, but they lack pilots to fly them. The lanterns in the tavern still flicker, but they reflect on empty walls. All in all the town and woods are nearly void of all sound.
Nearly.
If you tilt your head and close your eyes, you can still hear the laughter coming from the tavern. You can still hear the cheering of crews as they return from ruins, treasure in hand. The sounds of gold clinking in pockets still surrounds the business’s in town as bits of loot exchange hands.
In some ways it’s a sad thing to pack up the boxes and coins and quest sheets that lay quietly in piles since it’s devoid of friends and adventure, but in other ways, it’s my favorite part of LARP. Each inch of the field and woods now holds a memory of what happened there. I can’t look at anything with out smiling as I recall a duel or song that happened on that very spot. I can’t pick up a quest item or puzzle (yes, even that stupidly aggravating planet puzzle) without grinning as I picture it passing hands from player to player.
I often feel sad after a LARP (I’m sure I’m not the only one) but it never lasts long because I can’t help but overflow with happiness as I think of the stories we wrote together. That’s the magic of fellowship and storytelling. It doesn’t last a moment, it lasts a lifetime. That’s the purpose of LARP, to make memories and grow in ways that you’ll carry for years to come. I enjoy preparing for LARP, but it’s nothing compared to seeing the magic everyone brings with them. That moment of seeing scallywags and ruffians step out of their futuristic motorcars is a moment that I cherish. I know that whatever happens over the next several hours is going to be a delightful time, because it’s spent with delightful people.
Twas a blessing to sail with you all, a honor to fight beside you, and a near impossible feat of patience waiting for next time we gather on the high seas to tell stories together!!
Until then, enjoy this great mound of pictures (7/29/2023 – Constructing Airships) that our wonderful photographers took! If you have a story to share or a tale to regale, please send it to [email protected] so it can be posted on the website to share with everyone! (Feel at liberty to… enhance bits of the story for dramatic purposes, we ARE roleplaying after all….)

P.S. I’m still wrestling with this darn website to get the rough edges polished, so apologies if the bottom of this post ends up having strings of random text when it’s viewed in your email. An electric eel seems to have gotten into the wires and it’s quite slippery…
