A Note from Stryder (Then the real characters have their say below):

I am so looking forward to kicking off the 2017 season of LARP!  As noted, this first event will be a Falton Festival.  How is that different from a regular LARP (whatever regular means)?  This will be a series of events, competitions, dances and games.  The whole day will be like a combination of the festivals that we have when Quest Shawn Mark sounds the bagpipes, and we all gather peacefully in Falton for food, fun, and festivities.  In the place of a big battle, we will have a fully armed game of medieval/mob football! (Look it up on Wikipedia.)

Will it be any fun?, you ask.  “I swear it will be done.”

Here are the details:

  • Date:  March 18, 2017
  • Time:  10:00 – 2:00  (Note, this is EARLIER than normal).
  • Location:  If you don’t know, you can’t come…  You’ll have to ask your friend.
  • Preparations:  1) Costumes are mandatory.  2) Approved weapons are highly suggested.  3) A developed character/personality would be really nice to have.
  • What can I bring to help out?:  Olaf and his ladies will not be running the market (they’ll have other jobs) so snack foods of any kind would be appreciated.  There will be a donations jar.
  • After the game, you are welcome to join us inside for snacks, and watching “The Princess Bride”.  The movie will probably be over by 5:30.
  • Stay as long as 7:00 and we’ll put a broom in your hands…

P.S. Extra points for you if you caught the weak Princess Bride reference above  J

Royal Proclamation by Imperator Dimitri Valkova, the Ambassador of Roam:

Times of peace make (wo)men weak.  Since knowledge is power and strength is security, Roam has decreed that all the subjects of Falton (including New Falton) are to engage in battle training.  This training will take the form of competitions at the upcoming Falton Festival to be held March 18th.

Form your own teams that consist of 2-8 people.  (In the contests of strength, handicaps will be awarded to women and our smaller warriors to allow all teams to have a chance of winning.)  These battle training drills will be led by our Centurions who will provide direction and motivation.  The drills may include traditional favorites such as Caber Toss, Archery, Rock ‘n Roll, Lawn Stones, and Knife Throwing.  Additionally, we will hold our first-ever game of mob football.  Since this is battle training, mob football will be played – with weapons!

Ut spolia, victor abire!   Nisi forte vivere!

Imperator Dimitri Valkova, Ambassador of Roam

You may be interested to hear one response that was uttered following this proclamation:

Sure, Roam has brought us a road, and water, but at what price?  We work our land and the best of the harvest is taken away to feed those who already have plenty — Roam taxes everything we touch.  Our funds are no longer safe in the Bank of Falton.  We are forced to provide men-in-arms to join the Roamans on every whim of the Sesar.  Our children are forced to work in the house of the Ambassador of Roam, and there is rumor of what will be the FINAL STRAW…  Roam is expected to dictate that they will rob us of our God-given right — and mandate that all or our children attend their “public school”!  To this we reply, “DEATH FIRST!”  Yes please, Imperator Dimitri, train me further in the art of war and I will prove to you that only the strong survive – and we are the strong!

  1. Waynesville Question: is registration still closed, or are we allowed to invite friends again? There was a new girl at the Swing Dance Formal who just moved to Ohio, and she could stand to make some friends (and she’d fit into Falton perfectly…)

    • Registration for this first event is OPEN. Invite your friends, as long as they are willing to sacrifice a personal win for the fun of others. (And they arrive in costume!)

  2. Sheriff oh sheriff, why doth thou protest oh sheriff?
You see only a small piece of a grand tapestry that is the great Roaman culture. The crops we tax feed our military, a military that protects Falton’s borders from enemies such as the War Boys. You complain of the small tax on the goods bought and sold in the town, you say it’s too much! Yet the Salty Broth Inn has opened, proving business is thriving. The gold at the bank of Falton is perfectly safe in the hands of Ainsley, the noble banker. If you are referring to that incident that happened so very long ago, it was but an unfortunate misunderstanding over some stolen goods. A sheriff should know that enemies cannot be stopped by one man alone, so the volunteer militia was formed to protect the local countryside and aide you in your duties. Now look at what your hatred of Roam brings you to. You think ill of your youth who wish to better themselves by earning coin from Roam? It is a wonder I have not retracted my favor from you unruly peasants. Whatever Sesar asks of you, it should bring you great happiness to obey. If it is death you crave, ask and you shall receive…receive at the end of a loyal Roaman blade.

    Ut spolia, victor abire!
