10:00 a.m. Game On! Characters come alive! When you arrive, check in with the census takers, form teams, and begin the Warrior Training Competition.
At the end of the day, there will be Mob Rootball! As you may know, this “game” was first played between Guilder and Westar in the year of 906. It was used to settle a dispute between King Verimeer of Guilder and Empress Charlena of Westar over the boundary along their southern border. The original game ball was the root-ball of a large hickory tree.
- Setup: Two teams, each with an equal number of players. Two goals at opposite ends of the field. Multiple balls (no, we won’t be playing with roots).
- To Win: Get as many balls as possible in your goal.
- Rules: The ball can be carried, kicked, thrown. It cannot be hidden.
- Everyone is armed
- with Sword-length weapons. Tall people must use shorter swords. No shields.
- Everyone fights in the normal fashion to help them win.
- Combat will follow “lose-a-limb” tournament rules — If hit on a limb with a weapon, you lose use of that limb. (Hits on the hand below the wrist do not count. Hits above the shoulders do not count.) You die if you are hit four times. Respawn by touching either goal, or the designated tree in the middle of the field, and you are fully healed.
Then of course, there are pictures and “Princess Bride” inside till about 5:30. Lunch and snacks provided, no supper.
Wanna bring something? Snacks are welcome.
Need I say, it’s gonna be a great day!
