Human Chess Rules
Pieces – 2 Teams with 8 “pieces” per team. No pawns. Each piece has the movement restrictions of the piece they are playing (e.g. bishop-diagonal, rook-rectilinear, etc.) Pieces have 5 hp.
Field – the “Field” is 8×8 squares painted on the grass.
Players – There are two “Players” who direct the movement of the pieces.
Round – A round lasts about 30 seconds and consists of one piece being moved by a player, then every other piece of that “color” (wolf or human) taking their own movement. The end of the round is a short battle between enemies on adjacent squares. The next round begins by the next player moving one of their pieces.
Fights – You may fight any opponent in a square adjacent to you. You cannot fight an opponent in a square diagonal to you. A fight is 10 seconds of normal LARP fighting rules, but you must stay in your square. When a pieces reaches 0 hp, they fall dramatically to the ground, and are carried off the field. The fighting begins and ends at the sound of the gong.
Winning — The team that incapacitates the opponent’s king wins.
Example Round:
1. Begin Round 1 — The wolf player moves his Bishop diagonally 4 squares.
2. Every other wolf piece is now free to move, or stay stationary, wherever they would like (as limited by the allowed movement of their piece – e.g. a Knight moves up 2 and over 1, or up 1 and over 2).
3. After movement, a gong will sound. Every piece that is adjacent to an opposing piece may engage in a fight using normal LARP rules.
4. After 10 seconds, the gong will sound and fighting stops.
5. Players who are on the ground with 0 hp will be carried from the field. — End Round 1.
6. Begin Round 2 – The human player moves his Rook forward 3 squares.
7. Every other human piece is now free to move, or stay stationary.
8. After movement, a gong will sound. Every piece that is adjacent to an opposing piece may engage in a fight.
9. After 10 seconds, the gong will sound and fighting stops.
10. Players who are on the ground with 0 hp will be carried from the field. — End Round 2.
